From ideas to practice: DIY Parents training in Nicosia
The next step in DIY Parents is taking shape: From 3 to 5 November 2026, experts from the five partner countries will come together in Nicosia, Cyprus, for an international training hosted by COMCY and the Federation of Parents Associations of Public Primary Schools of Nicosia (FPAPPSN).The training brings together professionals who work with parents and families in educational, counselling or support contexts. They will contribute their practical experience and perspectives to the next stage of DIY Parents.
After the research, surveys and development work of the past months, it is time to bring our ideas to life. During the training, participants will explore the DIY Parents approach and have the opportunity to experience a selection of the activities developed for working with families first-hand and together.
The training will also create space to look at the practical potential of DIY Parents in the participants’ own contexts: How could the idea be brought into their everyday work with families? Which activities could fit their target groups and settings? What could a DIY Parents workshop look like in their local context? And what ideas, adaptations or new possibilities might emerge from putting the approach into practice?
The programme will combine hands-on activities, professional exchange, international networking and a study visit to a local organisation working with families.
The experiences and feedback from Nicosia will feed directly into the further development of the DIY Parents handbook and practical activities – helping us make them useful, accessible and ready to bring into practice.
From research to ideas. From ideas to action. And from action to family learning in real-life contexts.
